January 1, 2013 – New Year’s Day

2013-01-01_08-13-04_448 (1)2013-01-01_08-13-12_752   Our New Year’s Day started off with baked French Breakfast donuts.  We purchased the mini donut maker from Smart Planet last year for my son as a Christmas present.  As you can see he totally loves sweets – especially donuts.  Here is the recipe we used:



5 tbsp. butter

½ cup sugar

1 egg, beaten

1 ½ cup flour

2 ¼ tsp baking powder

¼ tsp. salt

¼ tsp. nutmeg

½ cup milk

For the topping: melt 2 tbsp. butter,  in a separate bowl combine ½ cup sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix butter and sugar thoroughly.  Add egg and mix well.  Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg together.  Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.  Fill pre-heated oiled donut maker with donut batter and bake for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.

Once done, take out of pan immediately and dip tops into melted butter (topping) and then dip in the sugar /cinnamon mixture.
