Since I have been gluten free I need to be careful to make sure that any spice packages I buy do not contain gluten. I know that McCormick has a Gluten Free Taco Seasoning – but hey – why not make it yourself.
Years ago I purchased a book called the The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn. I think that Amy put out a newsletter call the Tightwad Gazette with helpful tips on being frugal and this book is a compilation of all those newsletters. I really have gotten a ton of helpful tips and a few laughs as well.
This taco recipe is from her book.
6 teaspoons of Chili Powder
4 1/2 teaspoons of Cumin
5 teaspoons of Paprika
3 teaspoons of Onion Powder
2 1/2 teaspoons of Garlic Powder
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoons of Cayenne Pepper
Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. This homemade mix is twice as strong as the store-bought one, so only add half as much.
Enjoy!!!
